Welcome to Write This Way!
Write This Way started from a passion for teaching children how to write and read- a vital skill that empowers all!
We are a mobile speech pathology practice across Melbourne that specialises in developmental delays for children aged 1-12. We pride ourselves on making sure our practice is inclusive, engaging, supportive and fun.
We work with children across all areas of their life, including their home, school and kindergarten, because we know that learning happens everywhere.
What areas can we support your child with?
Communication development is a complex process that involves many areas intertwining. It can be overwhelming for parents and caregivers to figure out how they can best support each area of development.
Evidence has consistently shown that children who receive early intervention can make positive lifelong gains.
We know it may be daunting for some parents and guardians to seek out additional support for their child’s development, which is why we make sure our space is always respectful and considerate of everyone.
-
Stuttering involves various behaviours. People who stutter may repeat sounds, words or phrases. They may also stretch out a sound like “sssssnake” or find that words get ‘stuck’ when they are trying to speak. Early intervention for stuttering can help reduce the chances a child continues to stutter when they get older.
-
Literacy consists of reading and spelling. Literacy is one of the most essential academic and life skills. At Write This Way, we utilise evidence-based systematic synthetic phonics, phonemic awareness and morphology teaching to support children to be independent, successful readers and writers.
-
For most children, communication follows an expected pattern of development. Imitation, gestures, eye contact and turn taking are essential precursor skills to developing receptive (understanding) and expressive (use of) language. Children learn early language skills and develop their language best through play. At Write This Way, we provide strategies that families can integrate into their daily routine to help make learning functional.
-
Receptive language is the ability to understand language. Expressive language is the language we are able to produce verbally and non-verbally. Some difficulties in these areas include putting words in the right order, a reduced vocabulary, trouble following directions, and understanding the meaning of words.
-
Speech sounds follow a clear pattern of development. Most speech sound errors are expected to be resolved before commencing school, however, some children may continue to have speech errors. If you have concerns about your child’s speech, speech pathologists are able to provide an individualised program to support your child.
-
Write This Way prides itself on being a neuroaffirmative practice. We teach neuroaffirmative social skills to help people be more understanding of others' differences and to help people communicate in a way that is inclusive of everyone.
-
Alternative augmentative communication (AAC) refers to any method of communication aside from talking verbally. Some children may use AAC to supplement their communication or use it as their main method of communication. All forms of communication are valid communication.

Hi! My name is Melisa and I am the founder of Write This Way.
I am a certified practising speech pathologist registered with Speech Pathology Australia. I graduated with a Master of Speech Pathology in 2018 from The University of Melbourne. Since then, I have been fortunate enough to work across both private practice and primary and secondary schools to develop the expertise necessary to support the language, literacy and speech needs of children.
I am committed to creating a neuro-affirming engaging approach to therapy and tailoring it to suit the unique needs of each child. I am deeply passionate about supporting the emotional wellbeing of children so that they feel empowered to thrive. I believe that working collaboratively with a child’s family and other professionals is essential for them to grow and succeed.
In my spare time, I love spending time with my family and friends, baking cakes, trying out new cafes, and going to the movies.
